Lab Kits: Each student taking ECE 320 is required to have a lab kit (summer section only)
  • This gives you experience soldering a circuit board – a skill you’ll use in senior design (and elsewhere)
  • The resulting boards allow you to test our your hardware
  • They make the course a lot more fun: students tend to get a kick out of LEDs turn on, seeing their calculations work in practice
  • They make the course a lot more effective: it helps to see that calculations match up with simulations match up with hardware
  • They give you experience using multimeters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.

Purchasing Lab Kits: ECE 320 lab kits are free: one kit per ECE 320 student.
  • $35 in parts, exclding the FNRSI multimeter

Breadboard Power

Single Power Supply: +9V, +5V, +3.3V

The first half of Circuits I will focus on circuit analysis with DC signals. For these circuits, a single power supply is usually used.With you lab kit, you can provide
  • +9V: Connect the 9V battery directly to your breadboard
  • +5V: Plug in the black power supply onto your breadboard. Set the jumpers to +5V. Power with a 9V batter through the included barrel connector.
  • +3.3V: Same as +5V but set the jumpers to +3.3V

The second half or Circuits I will focus on circuit analysis with sinusoidal inputs (AC). For these circuits, you will need a + and a - power supply. To create this, two 9V batteries are used:
  • One goes from ground to +9V (black = ground, red =+9V)
  • The second goes from ground to -9V (red = ground, black = -9V)
